Calling all Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl fans, Ashley Benson and Penn Badgley are in a movie together… and they didn’t even know it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Birthday Cake is an upcoming indie film starring Ashley Benson, Penn Badgley, Ewan McGregor, Val Kilmer and Shiloh Fernandez. It follows a family on their yearly tradition to bring a cake to their Uncle in honour of their late dad’s birthday and the ten year anniversary of his death.
And, according to Benson, despite the iconic crossover of two of our all time fave shows—Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl—she didn’t didn’t even get the chance to meet Badgley on set!
On 15th of May, the cast of Pretty Little Liars got together for a cute Zoom reunion. In it, reunion moderator and TV Guide journalist Damian Halbrook mentioned the upcoming best of both worlds. Shay Mitchell had worked with Badgley on the first season of Netflix’s You, and, now, Benson was going to star in a film with him.
“I actually didn’t meet [him],” Benson said, according to Teen Vogue. “I didn’t even know he was in the movie.”
“I only worked with like six people in that film… but Penn’s in it, and I didn’t even know. I’ll meet him at the premiere!”
As of writing, The Birthday Cake does not have a release date. But, according to Benson, the film was shot pre-Covid-19 pandemic and is in post-production, so we could maybe see it sometime later this year?
Fingers crossed we see a trailer soon and maybe even a super cute selfie of our two faves? We can dream.
