We just got our first look at the new ‘Gossip Girl’ cast on those iconic Met steps

Meet your new Upper East Siders.

Welcome back to the Upper East Side, it’s been a while and a lot has changed. In case you somehow missed it, we’re getting a reboot of the quintessential late 2000s teen show, Gossip Girl. While details around the plot are still pretty light on the ground, we have now been treated to our very first look at the new Gossip Girl cast in costume. In the new photos, the cast is chilling on the iconic steps of the Met. It’s pretty wild to see this new—and much more diverse cast—in the very same spot where so much pivotal drama went down. Wonder if they can feel the echoes of Blair and Serena’s worst fights there?

The new photos show most of the cast together, and yes, they are all hotties. It’s Gossip Girl after all. In the above photo, we’ve got our first look at the actors in costume as their characters. From left to right that is: Evan Mock, Emily Alyn Lind, Thomas Doherty, Eli Brown, Jordan Alexander, Zion Moreno and Savannah Lee Smith. Based on literally nothing but body language, we’re sensing a kind of mean and popular gal vibe from Alexander. She appears in other photos with Smith and Moreno, who we reckon might perhaps be part of her girl gang?

In others, we also got a peek at Rookie founder and IRL fashion gal Tavi Gevinson and her fellow Gossip Girl reboot co-star Adam Chanler-Berat. Yeah, we can already tell the styling in this show is gonna be wildly unrealistic and aspirational.

We also got a look at Whitney Peak, notably sitting away from the rest of the group. According to ELLE US, alongside Emily Lind’s character, Audrey (the only character named so far), and Eli Brown, Peak will be one of the series’ mains. We’re wondering if she’s playing a slight outsider or a Little J type character? Hmmm very intriguing.

When and where is the Gossip Girl reboot being filmed?

According to Variety, the Gossip Girl reboot is officially beginning filming in October 2020. Ironically, while the show is set in New York City’s elite Upper East Side, the series is being filmed in Vancouver, Canada, New York and Los Angeles.

When is the Gossip Girl reboot coming out?

As of right now there’s no official release date, but HBO Max chief content officer Kevin Reilly told Vulture that it likely won’t be until next year—which is almost guaranteed by the series filming only next month.

Call us optimistic-realists, but we suspect the series will make its debut in the first half of 2021.

Will the original Gossip Girl cast appear in the reboot?

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Joshua Safran, the writer and producer behind the original series, confirmed that the new series features an all-new cast but is set within the same universe as the original. And, the reboot will address what happened to Serena, Blair, Dan and the rest of the original Gossip Girl gang.

“It’s not a continuation or a sequel,” he said. “It truly is just looking at a different angle.”

That said, Safran admits that, “they are a part of the world. The characters talk about them and that they do exist.”

And, our resident Gossip Girl voice actress, Kristen Bell (Frozen), will reprise her role as narrator, as per TV Line

“Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl,” said Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage in a statement to TV Line

Who’s in the cast of the Gossip Girl reboot?

Also according to Safran, the Gossip Girl reboot will feature more queer and people of colour voices.

“There will be a lot of queer content,” he said, adding that the original show did not represent real private school life at the time. “It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that.”
