Madison Beer has been taking flak for a long time about whether she’s editing her photos, but it’s recently escalated pretty dramatically. In a number of TikTok videos, people have been calling out the singer for ‘unacknowledged’ plastic surgery and Facetuning her photos.
In one extremely angry video, TikToker Katie Kelly (@girlwithgreenbeanie) yells that “when Madison Beer is consistently lying about her face and her body and how she’s naturally that way and setting unrealistic body and face standards for women and girls all around the world, I lose my fucking mind.”
While obviously people’s choices about how to cosmetically change their bodies are their own, Kelly argued that Beer’s lack of transparency about her looks was contributing to a cycle of unrealistic expectations and eating disorders among young women.
Kelly goes on to mimic Beer crying on TikTok live about people bullying her. Beer, much like Hailey Bieber recently, defended herself and dismissed the plastic surgery accusations as false. She wrote back about the accusations explaining that while she did have lip filler when she was younger, she had it dissolved.
As for the photo-editing? Well, apparently she did edit the recent pictures of her that followers snarkily commented “editing skills tho” on. But, it was only to remove “the part of the glass covered in BIRD SHIT,” according to her comments on Kelly’s video.
After having a break from the social media platform, Beer later went on TikTok live to further defend herself (and her face). “Yes, guys, I got my lips done when I was younger and I fucking regretted it and I hated it and I got them dissolved. This is literally my fucking natural face, shut up already, it’s so annoying… I’m about to start crying, bro,” she says in the video.
She also shows the quite different ways her nose looks when she’s smiling and not, asking, “How does that work? Did I just get a nose job in two seconds?”
Thankfully, for now, it seems like peace has been restored. Kelly has now posted a video explaining that she and Beer had spoken on the phone and smoothed everything over. “We worked everything out, we see eye to eye now we’re on the same page, the video that I posted, unfortunately, the intentions behind it were skewed and I feel really bad about that.”
She continues, “I only wanted to use this platform for light, love, and positivity and I hope that you all do the same.” Does anyone else have whiplash from that 180 pivot at the speed of light? Commenters have noticed the sharp turn too, saying, “she went from screaming at her to yay bestie,” and “She really finessed her way into a convo with Madison Beer.”
Whatever went down in that conversation, we guess it just goes to show that picking up the phone and actually communicating is a lot more effective than posting 30-second chunks of yelling into a front-facing camera.
