We fell head over heels for Joey King thanks to her role as high school cutie Elle Evans in the Netflix film, The Kissing Booth.
Our beloved Joey is back but her latest film sits firmly in the horror genre – so be prepared to cover your eyes, a lot!
Based on the terrifying Internet meme, Slender Man follows four teens, Wren (Joey King), Hallie (Julia Goldani Telles), Chloe (Jaz Sinclair) and Katie (Annalise Basso) who summon the monster that is Slender Man and they are forced to deal with the horrifying consequences.
Girlfriend caught up with Joey to talk all things ~scary~ movies.
GF: This is not your first horror film. What made you sign on for another one?
I think what’s so cool about this movie is that I’ve always been aware of the myth and legend of Slender Man. I played the video game when it first came out so when this movie came about and came on my desk I was pretty stoked.
GF: Are you a fan of scary movies yourself? Are they something you watch regularly?
You know, I am [but] I just scare so easy. It takes nothing to scare me so I like horror movies but I also can’t see most of them because I’m covering my eyes.
GF: Did you ever use a Ouija board at sleep overs when you were younger?
Oh hell no! If I was at a sleepover and someone pulled out a Ouija board, I’d call my mum to come pick me up [laughs].
GF: What is the scariest movie you’ve ever seen?
I know this is going to sound stupid and arrogant but honestly The Conjuring, I’m not even joking. It’s so scary. (Joey starred in The Conjuring in 2013)
GF: If you had the chance, what horror movie would you want to be apart of?
I feel like I’ve been a part of so many cool genre films as far as horror goes and I think I’ve accomplished in like the horror genre so much of what I wanted to.
GF: What was your favourite part of shooting Slender Man?
My favourite scene I got to film was my big scene with Slender Man in a library. It was such a crazy day and it’s so physically and emotionally exhausting but I had so much fun. There’s nothing better than coming home at the end of a long work day being like covered in bruises from the amount of physical activity you had and being so ready to jump into bed, it was the best day ever.
Slender Man is in cinemas August 23.
