In major beauty YouTuber news today, Jeffree Star has been accused of multiple counts of sexual assault and physical violence. In an extensive new report from Insider, Star is reported to have: groped men around him, used weapons to intimidate people and used threatening legal tactics and paying people off to make alleged victims withdraw their stories. It’s a whole lot, with the Insider reporters explaining that this is the result of a months-long investigation into Star.
Star is no stranger to controversy, having courted it frequently with accusations of racism and a “Nazi lipstick,” his perhaps offensive product names and of course, the Tati Westbrook saga.
This new report, however, is incredibly serious and has a staggering number of claims about Star’s behaviour.
The Jeffree Star allegations:
Per Insider, these are some of the things Star has been accused of:
- In addition to his racist outbursts, several people—including some of Star’s former friends, peers, and associates—told Insider that he physically and sexually abused others at the height of his Myspace fame.
- Several people said Star sexually preyed on men around him through nonconsensual oral sex and groping at his music performances.
- Accusers also said Star used weapons such as a stun gun—a tasing device—on the people around him for fun and for revenge after facing rejection.
- Messages obtained by Insider showed two of Insider‘s on-the-record sources discussing a $10,000 payout offer from Star to recant their allegations.
How has Star responded?
Star himself hasn’t yet publicly responded to the allegations in the article. Instead, he greeted fans this morning with a tweet.
His lawyer allegedly wrote several letters to the publication before the report went up, denying the allegations and calling them “false and defamatory.”
What are people saying about this?
As with all YouTuber drama, people are weighing in online.
Referring to his practice of sending fans money, one user wrote, “There is absolutely no coincidence that his money giveaway started not even 24 hours before this article was released.” Another agreed, “He always does his bullshit money giveaways when some drama is brewing behind the scenes. I really hope this is the final nail in the coffin for this monster but somehow he always comes out unscathed smh.”
Others pointed out how Star’s insistence on his allegations that James Charles is a sexual predator is deeply hypocritical in light of the report about him.
The report comes after an ongoing situation with Star and his recent romantic partner, Andrew Marhold. In a now-deleted post, Star shared a text conversation between him and Marhold. In the text, Star asks Marhold to give him back “all the stuff you stole from my house,” and has now publically accused Marhold of stealing from him.
Some Twitter users are already calling that ongoing drama a purposeful distraction from the report. We’ll be watching this space to see what comes next.
