Gavin Leatherwood spilt a bunch of piping hot tea about Part Two of ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’

Hell yeah.
Netflix

When Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premiered on Netflix late last year, we were shook. The series was dark and at times gruesome but it was also filled with interesting characters, killer music, and amazing clothes. Basically, we were obsessed. Ahead of the premiere of CAOS Part Two on April 5, we were lucky enough to chat to the dreamy Gavin Leatherwood (a.k.a warlock Nick Scratch) and he filled us in on what’s happening with his character this season.

Congrats on Part Two of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina! Were you surprised at the fan reaction to Part One and to your character, Nicholas Scratch?

Thank you! I knew the show was special, for sure. It has such an amazing tone and I had originally auditioned for Harvey so I saw the script back then and was just like ‘This is a project to keep an eye on’. I’m stoked that people received it as well as they did. It’s a really fun show that has these deeper messages rooted within it so I’m really happy that it’s resonating. As for Nick, I didn’t really know what to expect. This is my first big job and as an actor and I just wanted to bring him to life to the best of my ability and the fact that he’s continuing to grow and his involvement is getting bigger is just really awesome.

Nick has a big presence in Part Two and we get to know more about your character’s background. What was your favourite part of his journey?

I was just ravenous about the third episode. Reading that script was so fun and to uncover so much more about Nick was really exciting. It was just so fun and I think it really provided a lot of juicy bits to who Nick is and where he came from and his upbringing and it was really fun to just dive into that episode in particular.

There’s a scene in episode three where you are shirtless in the forest and it looks freezing. Is filming in Vancouver be brutal at times?

Yeah, it can definitely be freezing sometimes [laughs]. I remember that scene so well because I was shivering and it’s cold and wet and it was hard but like that’s part of being an actor and it’s so fun. It was just awesome, that’s when acting just really feels like a dream and it’s the love you have for it that drives you through that temporary pain and I’m happy to do it again and again.

We chatted to Kiernan Shipka not long ago and she mentioned that you all live near each other in Vancouver when you’re filming. Does it feel like being away at school camp?

Absolutely! We’re all on this crazy, wild ride and the beautiful thing about it is that we’re all on it together and without my cast mates I don’t know how this experience would be. If they were not who they were, it would be a whole other kind of experience and to just be around such beautiful, amazing, talented people, it’s just a blessing and I’m excited to go back to camp.

The cast of Riverdale also live close by. Do you all hang out?

We have a couple times and we’ll have some get-togethers here and there. When you spend all day on set with your group, you just really gel and vibe and get into that rhythm of hanging out and it’s like visiting the other camp across the way. It’s fun that we know that there’s friends who are just across the way who are going through something similar, who have kind of like cleared the path as well, they’ve been on it and it’s really comforting at times especially to hang out with them and hear how they’re doing.
