The film is an adaptation of Becky Albertalli‘s best-selling YA novel, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, and is already receiving raving reviews!

The story follows an honest depiction of what it’s like for young people finding themselves, mainly Simon, who is gay.

However, one of the most beautiful things that’s come from this movie is the fact that Nick Robinson’s brother came out as gay during filming of the show.

“He came out around the same time that we started filming,” Nick revealed on The Ellen Show yesterday.

Ellen asked Nick if it was his involvement in the movie which encouraged him to come out.

“I think that he had been dealing with this for a long time and I think the timing was sort of coincidental,” Nick said.

He continued, “One of the best things that came out of this movie is being able to talk to him and I think that’s the strength of a film like this is it starts a conversation. I hope that it can do that for more people and start a conversation that otherwise may not have been there.”

Nick has previously admitted that he “had a feeling for many years about” his brother’s sexual orientation and was “just very proud of him for taking that step.”

“It just made it closer to home for me telling the story,” he continued. “It felt like we were making something that could potentially help people, which is a good feeling.”

Amazing!
