There is a lot to love about The Kissing Booth 2. It’s over two hours of escapist, unrealistic teenage fantasy. Elle, Lee, Noah and our newcomers, Marco and Chloe, exist in a sunny version of California where high schoolers live in mansions, homework doesn’t exist, and getting into Harvard is apparently as easy as writing a vague letter saying your best traits are how you make your friends and family happy.
We’d agree with actors Joey King and Joel Courtney that the cheesiness and wholesome ’80s John Huges moments are a big part of The Kissing Booth franchise’s appeal. That said, it’s also very fun to reflect on the wild scenarios and situations these characters find themselves in.
A favourite editing mistake we’ve discovered happens around the middle of the film. ICYMI, there’s a moment in the film where Elle (Joey King) and Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) take a break from their intense Dance Dance Revolution practise. Yes, the film asks us to believe this is a world where teenagers think winning the prize money from a dance competition to pay for college is a better plan than… IDK, getting a part-time job. And that college in the U.S. *only* costs $50,000. We accept it and move on, okay, we’re here for the teen romance!
During Elle and Marco’s DDR break they have a sweet conversation on a Ferris wheel and then move to sit on the beach under a full moon. We can only assume that the writers were so pleased with how many romantic stereotypes they shoved into one scene that uh, they went totally H.A.M. and decided Marco should now pull a whole-ass guitar out of nowhere and begin to play.

Where did the guitar come from? Did he manifest it? Where was it when they were in the Ferris wheel? Is Elle not perplexed by this sudden Wonderwall performance? So many questions that we’re happily yeeting into the sea because we didn’t come here for a movie that makes sense.
With love in our hearts, here are some of the other things we and the rest of the internet are pondering about the cinematic masterpiece that is The Kissing Booth 2.
1. Noah throwing his card for Elle straight into someone’s head
2. Rachel and Lee being in a wildly unequal, unhealthy and uncommunicative relationship
3. Noah deciding the best way to contact his GF is pretending to be her dad
4. Elle deciding the best time to test her feelings for Marco is in front of a giant audience and her boyfriend
5. So are Elle and Marco splitting the money? Leaving her with only $25k to cover the cost of college at *Harvard*?
Many questions. Much to consider. Stan Taylor Zakhar Perez for good grades.
