There’s a lot going on in V Wars, but one of the more interesting developments of this new world is that – unlike other vampire movies and TV shows – there are more than one species (or type) of vampire.
Thanks to Dr. Luther Swann, we know a little about the two different types of vampires – the Bloods and the Vourdalaks – that make up this new world, but what is the actual difference between them?
Here are the different types of Vampires in V Wars…
“The Bloods”
The Bloods are your more traditional type of vampires.
They are the creatures who feed on human blood, however, those who they feed on don’t usually survive the attack.
In V Wars, they are the kind of vampire that is able to infect someone just simply by being around them, through the same pathogen that infected Michael Fayne, that was discovered in the artic.
“Bloods” look like humans except for when they feed. When Blood vampires feed their face changes into a creature with longer teeth. This type of vampire is also able to heal.
“Bloods” have a chance of turning their human victim into a vampire if they want, but if the pathogen doesn’t affect their human victim, they stay dead.
“The Vourdalaks”
The Vourdalak vampires have a very different way of feeding on humans. This kind of vampire species can feed on a human without actually killing them, and when they do feed on humans, they produce a venom that gives their victim a similar high to a drug, this way the victim actually enjoys getting their blood sucked by a Vourdalak.
Vourdalaks are also only able to feed on someone who they have a deep connection too, unlike Bloods who can feed on anyone.
The only way a Vourdalak can create another vampire is if they accidentally kill one of them, and that human would be turned into a Vourdalak, not a Blood.
What determines who becomes a Blood or a Vourdalak?
Dr. Luther Swann (AKA your boy Ian Somerhalder) seems to think it all comes down to genes.
Dr. Swann has hypothesised that just as the pathogen doesn’t affect all humans, the ones that it does affect can be varied.
Sisters Danika and Mila (obvi) share common DNA, which is why they both got turned into Vourdalaks. But Michael has different DNA, which means he got turned into a Blood.
And that concludes our weekly vampire lesson.
